Our nurses, midwives, and doctors are working hard to decrease maternal deaths in Sierra Leone! This week, The Mama-Pikin Foundation supported the Ministry of Health to train 54 trainers who will then train health workers across the country to use the new medications Heat-Stable Carbetocin & Tranexamic Acid to prevent and treat postpartum hemorrhage.
We also launched the national roll-out by training 91 health workers in Koinadugu District. Hemorrhage is the leading cause of maternal death in Sierra Leone, and we hope to reduce bleeding deaths by half with the use of these new drugs and the E-MOTIVE protocol to manage bleeding.
This work is funded by the Catalytic Opportunity Fund for Introduction and Scale-Up of New and Lesser-Used Postpartum Hemorrhage Medicines.
