A Milestone for Maternal Care in Sierra Leone: Dr. Rosetta Cole Uses Electronic Fetal Monitoring for the First Time Ever at PCMH

Beyond proud to see Dr. Rosetta Cole using an Electronic Fetal Monitor at Princess Christian Maternity Hospital (PCMH) today. Dr. Cole, a Sierra Leonean OB/GYN trained in Ghana, has returned home to care for patients at PCMH and to train OB/GYN residents in the first-ever postgraduate OB/GYN training program in Sierra Leone.

This is the first time we are using electronic fetal monitoring in Sierra Leone’s only tertiary maternity hospital, which delivers 8,000 babies per year. Electronic Fetal Monitoring, developed in the 1960s, is essential to monitor babies and help prevent deaths during childbirth.

“By fos, Salone nor get for lef beyen” (“Sierra Leone will not be left behind”). Let us all contribute to the development of this country.

The postgraduate program is generously supported by an anonymous grant awarded to The Mama-Pikin Foundation.
