My colleagues and I published a commentary in Health Policy Watch today to highlight the significant global pushback against sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) happening worldwide, undermining many of the gains we’ve achieved. We need collective action to prevent further backsliding, which we are unfortunately witnessing even here in Sierra Leone.
Our call: Protect SRHR
More than 30 years after the international commitments to sexual and reproductive health and rights made in Cairo and the commitments within the Sustainable Development Goals, the urgent work to safeguard lives, well-being, and dignity in sexual and reproductive health is far from over.
In light of this, and the clear threats to sexual and reproductive health and rights, we call on all delegates at the 2024 World Health Assembly to protect and promote sexual and reproductive rights—rights that are fundamental human rights, owed to all without discrimination.
