We’re thrilled to announce that The Mama-Pikin Foundation will now be supporting Yengema Clinic in Kono District and Hanga Clinic in Kenema District! Every pregnant woman in these clinics will receive transportation assistance and a Mama-Pikin Foundation delivery bucket during labor.
The foundation’s interventions include:
- Delivery Buckets: Each woman who delivers at a supported clinic receives a delivery bucket containing a plastic sheet for a clean delivery surface, a Lappa (cloth) to wrap the baby, and soap. These buckets have significantly reduced maternal and neonatal infections and encourage women to deliver at the clinics, contributing to a decrease in dangerous home deliveries.
- Transportation Assistance: The foundation reimburses motorcycle taxis that transport women in labor to the clinics, ensuring no woman has to walk miles during this crucial time.
- Nutrition Support: Nutritional aid is provided to pregnant women staying in birth waiting homes.
- Community Health Officer Support: We support health officers to promote clinic-based deliveries, breastfeeding, and the identification of high-risk pregnancies and children in need of care.
These initiatives aim to improve maternal and neonatal health outcomes in Kono and Kenema, helping to create safer childbirth experiences for every mother and child.
